What can students expect from your class?

Students can expect an accessible practice that soothes the soul sprinkled with uplifting music and a splash of philosophy to explore deeper connections between yoga, mindfulness, and daily life. Outside of the studio, Jonas is a passionate surfer, chasing waves across the globe. He also loves bringing people together to delight in his special guacamole!

About Me

Jonas’ yoga journey began 30 years ago, sparked by the peace he found in savasana. After a decade of martial arts training and a colourful array of life experiences, Jonas returned to Vancouver in 2014 to discover a new sense of belonging in nature and through yoga.

Jonas’ teaching style is a reflection of his playful and curious nature, seamlessly blending ease and challenge. He completed 200-hr teacher training in Gibsons, and his 50-hr Yin teacher training with YYOGA in Vancouver. He has been a student of Vedic meditation for nearly a decade.

Classes

What can students expect from your class?

My classes are focused on effective movement and strengthening for all levels and all bodies. Expect a full body workout with an emphasis on core, alignment and precise muscle activation.

About Me

I’m Shawna (she/her). A lifelong athlete and teacher, I was inspired to start my journey in Pilates 6 years ago as a means of recovery after experiencing a chronic back injury. Coming from a science background, I quickly began learning all I could about Pilates and mindful movement for injury recuperation. And, naturally, began to share everything I learned with anyone who would listen. Today, I spend most of my day in motion, sharing my passion for effective movement with healthy and injured bodies alike. I teach with a focus on fun, accessible movement in a style that is grounded in my STOTT pilates training, while also incorporating elements of clinical pilates, yoga, functional fitness and the new things I learn every day about how to keep your body moving happily.

Classes

What can students expect from your class?

A welcoming and inclusive space to come as you are.

About Me

I enrolled in my first Hatha yoga teacher training in 2009, under Ph.D Yogrishi Vishvketu through ashram residency in Rishikesh, India. In 2012, I completed a 300-hour teacher training with a focus in Vinyasa and Restorative yoga under Rachel Hull in Bali, Indonesia. For the next four years I taught yoga and continued my studies throughout Asia (India, Indonesia, China, Thailand) and the Americas (Peru, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Mexico) before finally returning to Vancouver, BC in 2015 to complete my education as a registered acupuncturist. I am inspired by the intelligence of nature and the traditions of our ancestors, and coming together to practice our highest intentions. I love to share with students the profound effect that a daily yoga practice can bring – from focus, to strength, to inner peace.

What should students expect from your class?

My classes are contemporary Pilates set to a music driven tempo. I love using music to set the tone and intention of class, which helps drive focus and energy. Expect to work the entire body, lots of core, standing work and a solid burn to leave you feeling energized.

About Me

My background in fitness started a long time ago as a competitive synchronized swimmer. I have always loved fitness and sport, so it seemed like a natural progression to move into becoming a Pilates Instructor. My journey into teaching fitness started in 2018 with a Barre certification, which then progressed into many more Barre trainings and eventually moving into Pilates (officially) in 2022. In 2023, I completed my certification with Stott Pilates in Reformer and Mat.

About Me

My yoga journey started in 2005 with Bikram’s 26&2 hot yoga. I knew right away the practice had deep impacts on the body, mind, and soul.

I have trained and gained certifications in Hatha, Vinyasa, Yin, Hot, and Ashtanga yoga, as well as getting certified as a personal trainer and Pilates instructor. I also studied holistic nutrition and herbal medicine. I took advanced training most recently with the Ghosh Yoga organization in the traditional Bishnu C. Ghosh lineage.

I teach mostly powerful flows, designed to bring each practitioner to their own edge, not too much, not too little. I include functional range and mobility movements in my classes. You will also catch me teach yin, hot and other styles from time to time. Students can expect both their body and their mind to be brought into focus.

My main goal is to share tools and techniques in the yoga tradition, and to guide students towards their own inner potential to heal and be at peace.

What can students expect from your classes?

In my classes, students can expect a blend of physical practice, breathing and moving meditation that will make them feeling happier and healthier when the leave the class.

About Me

I first discovered yoga in 2001, amidst my career as an RN, and it was love at first practice. This passion later blossomed into my true calling as I became certified as a yoga and Pilates teacher. To enhance my yoga practice, I further qualified as a Personal Trainer, Nutrition Coach, and specialist in Behaviour Change and Metabolic Health.

At YYOGA, I teach a variety of classes, including Pilates Fusion, Hatha, Flow, Power, YHot, and YSculpt. I blend my extensive knowledge of the human body with my expertise in health and fitness. This unique combination helps me create holistic, transformative experiences for my students, aiming to empower them physically, mentally, and spiritually.

In my free time, I’m dedicated to bodybuilding, a discipline that challenges me and complements my yoga practice. I also cherish my role as a wife and a grandmother, enjoying every moment I spend with my two grandchildren. For me, fitness isn’t just about the physical aspect; it’s a lifestyle that encompasses all aspects of well-being, and I’m excited to share this journey with you.

What should students expect from your class?:

In my classes you can expect a choice-based, gentle practice with an emphasis in self-inquiry and self-resourcing.

About Me

I am a non-binary, creative, queer-identifying human, trained in instructing trauma-sensitive Yin, Hatha, and Vinyasa Yoga. I aim to practice cultural appreciation and humbly acknowledge the roots of Yoga date back thousands of years to the Indus Valley and are traditional to cultures other than my own. The intention in my teaching is to share the life-enhancing practices of Yoga (beyond Asana) with diverse populations and offer ways to feel safe and spirited in body and mind. With a special interest in inclusive, accessible practices, my classes are for all levels of ability and experience. My teaching style emphasizes choice, self-inquiry, and exploration to foster emotional resilience, self-sovereignty, and create space for individual expansion. Everyone is welcome to come as they are and bravely meet that self with compassion and curiosity.

What should students expect from your class?

Slow and considerate sequences with an inquisitive and playful approach.

About Me

I am an artist and have studied nature, art and yoga as healing modalities. My real yoga journey began when I became part of the incredible YYOGA community, which inspired me to complete my Hatha and Yin training with Lucy St John and Niki Inglis. I enjoy sharing an authentic practice full of heart, including anatomical knowledge with skeletal variation awareness. Both certifications were trauma informed and explored cultural sensitivity, which I believe is integral to support true inclusion within the yoga community. My fascination with exploring a slower practice grows every day, learning how a quieter process can nourish our mind, body and nervous system, to help us move through life with more ease and grace. I am deeply passionate about helping my students find emotional and physical nurturance, by offering choice, modifications, and encouragement for self-expression.

What should students expect from your class?

A well-rounded physical sequence that targets all the major areas of the body, with lots of options and a wee bit of yoga philosophy mixed in.

About Me

Hi! My name is Reith and I am a trauma-informed yoga teacher on the stolen land of the Coast Salish peoples, in what we now call ‘Vancouver.’ Yoga has been a part of my life since I was a youth, and the practice has been my steadiest companion throughout periods of depression, celebration, and everything in between. In 2023, I completed a 200hr teacher training with the amazing trainers at YYOGA, and a trauma-informed training through Yoga Outreach. My goal as a teacher is to create a welcoming, non-judgemental environment where everyone from beginners to experienced practitioners can experience moments of a calm mind through focus on breath, sensation, and eye gaze. The power of yoga to regulate our nervous systems and make friends with our bodies is such an incredible tool and it is my deepest honour and privilege to share this ancient South Asian practice with others.
