About We Move Together

Thank you

To our community who helped us raise $10,149.29 for the Downtown Eastside Women's Centre and Red Door Shelter this holiday season!

Ten years ago YYOGA was founded with the intention of making the world a better place through the practice of yoga and with the power of mindfulness.

We believe having a place that allows you to disconnect and go inward, a place where you feel like you belong is more important than ever before. Fiercely protecting this has always been our goal -- it’s why creating studio spaces where everyone is welcome has been so important to us.

We also believe that yoga and the communities that surround it have the power to change the world and that everyone deserves to live their healthiest, happiest and most fulfilled life.

At the heart of We Move Together is the intention to create opportunities for all people to practice yoga, and therefore have access to its transformational power.

We believe there is power in community so we work with those within ours to extend our reach beyond our studios walls and create these opportunities for those facing barriers.

We also believe that when we move together, both on and off the mat, we’re stronger.

In addition to making yoga accessible for more people, we believe collectively giving back in other ways is equally as important.

We do so with the support of our community and through monetary donations, cause awareness, charitable partnerships and by creating space for people to come together for important conversations about wellbeing and in the spirit of inspiring real change.

As we head into 2019 and this program grows, we look forward to updating you on the specific people, organizations, and groups that we are partnering with to activate We Move Together. To get involved, apply below!

We gain inspiration and momentum by connecting with individuals and organizations working to create real change.

We work with the passionately curious, the change-makers, the challengers of status-quo, the seekers, the guides, the enthusiastic and the genuine. It doesn’t matter to us if you’re powered by an organization (big or small) or the sweat of a single human hustling to do good in the world.

What matters to us is that we work together to inspire conversations, ignite passion, drive education and invite awareness around the causes that are close to our hearts and that matter to our communities.

Our approach to supporting access to yoga is by partnering with individuals as well as grass roots and hyper local organizations and the change-makers that power them.

Support varies depending on the needs of the partner and the type of work they do within the community.

In the past, we have donated studio space, funded teacher wages for classes both inside and outside our studios, coordinated teachers for outdoor events, donated previously-loved yoga mats, gathered goods donations, facilitated fundraising, offered by donation classes, donated a % of sales, funded event tickets, and shared cause messages with our community.

We look forward to growing this part of this program in 2019 and beyond.

We do our best to focus our efforts and re-evaluate regularly to give to as many people as we can while making the biggest impact possible.

Causes that we have supported in the past have included but are not limited to:

  • women’s health / men’s health
  • mental health
  • at-risk and under-resourced youth
