Meet Paula:
A longtime member and graduate of the YYOGA 200-Hour Teacher Training, Paula holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics and an MBA from Anthabasca University, currently working full time as a Senior Consultant within Digital Transformation and Cyber Security.
Paula’s yoga journey began in 2009 when she took her first yoga class. Over the years, she has deepened her practice and spent the past few years teaching yoga in her community. Most recently, she joined the substitute teaching team at YYOGA, and she looks forward to sharing her love for the practice and its holistic benefits with students.
With the support of her husband and business partner, Derrick, Paula will be transitioning to become West Point Grey’s full time studio operator and leader, overseeing everything from recruitment and operations to community building and guest experience.
Meet Derrick:
A longtime member and avid YYOGI, Derrick embodies dedication, resilience, and leadership honed in the competitive world of swimming. Embracing his passion for guiding others, Derrick is a certified senior coach with the Canadian National Coaching Certification Program. His career includes significant leadership positions such as coaching for the Canadian National Swim Team and his current role as Head Coach of the UBC Thunderbirds.
Known for his strong work ethic, determination, and resilience, Derrick focuses on empowering his athletes, equipping them for success both in and out of the pool. He cultivates a positive team environment through encouragement, patience, and kindness. Derrick finds valuable connections between coaching and yoga, applying his yoga knowledge to enhance his coaching methods, promote balance, and support the overall well-being of his athletes.
Derrick will be closely involved in the operations and leadership of YYOGA West Point Grey, working alongside Paula.
While we’re still in the build and construction phase, this location is still on track to open in the Fall of 2025 and we couldn’t be more excited to welcome you to this gorgeous new space, only blocks from the beach and nestled amongst a vibrant and growing community.
