Yoga has always been with Juan since birth and he believes that we are all born yoginis and yogis, because in one form or another, most of us are always striving to be better versions of ourselves. It was not until he began to learn more about the philosophy behind Yoga that he noticed that, for as long as he could remember, he was already trying to apply all these concepts in his life.
It was in his early 20’s when he became interested in the system of Yoga and dance and how the body was another tool for communication. In 2009, he completed his first Yoga teacher training at Prana Yoga College in Vancouver and has been teaching Yoga ever since. He holds university degrees in Industrial Design from Emily Carr University and Contemporary Dance from Simon Fraser University. He has worked professionally as an independent Dance Artist in both Vancouver and Toronto and he has completed teacher trainings in several styles including Aerial Yoga.
Some teachers that he is inspired by are Georg Feuerstein, Shakti Mhi, Sarah Powers, Hali Schwartz, YuMee Chung, Julie Gudmestad and Leslie Kaminoff. His dedication has granted him the opportunity to co-lead Yoga teacher trainings in many places across the globe including Bali, Hawaii, New Zealand, the UK and Toronto.
Currently he is completing Georg Feuerstein’s, Traditional Yoga Studies (800HRS), a course in History, Literature and Philosophy of Yoga and Leslie Kaminoff’s (90HRS) intensive course in Yoga Anatomy Principles. In 2018, Juan will begin his Body-Mind Centering Program certification process with Amy Matthews and Mary Lou Seereiter.
What should students expect from your class? You can expect a practice to quiet and balance your mind and at the same time, build the flexibility and the strength that your individual body needs. My teaching style brings emphasis on breath and fluidity of movement to raise the energy, create more stability and bring more awareness to your own range of motion. My goal is for you to leave the class with a sense of spaciousness and openness.
