General Questions

What is included in the yoga teacher training (tuition, books, etc.)?

The program cost includes your non-refundable registration fee, tuition, training manuals, and a Class Pack for the duration of your training. Books are sold separately.

What is the maximum capacity of your teacher trainings?

The class capacity is 32 students.

Are there any information sessions I can attend about teacher training?

We regularly offer info sessions 6-8 weeks before the start of the training and there is usually a free class with one of our trainers that you can attend before the info session. At the info session, you will learn about the program, the trainers, and the logistics of the training. These are also listed on program web pages.

What happens if there are certain days you cannot attend the training?

In order to complete a training you must attend all scheduled classes and complete all required coursework.

Attendance for scheduled classes is mandatory. However, we understand that there may be exceptional circumstances where you are unable to attend class. In these situations, we allow you to make up for the missed class time to complete the training with two options:

1) Take a private session with the trainer. Private sessions cost $150+tax per hour, and a 1 hour private session is equivalent to 4 hours of in-class time. Therefore missing a full day (8 hours) would require 2 hours of private sessions. You may partner up with other students who missed those same days to split the cost of the private sessions. Private sessions must be paid for before the session occurs. (Recommended option)

2) Take the missed days in a subsequent teacher training for free, space permitting. Please note that our trainings may fill up, in which case, you will not be able to attend the required class to make up for missed time.
Certificates are issued after all training days are completed.

What are your admission requirements, if any?

Students must understand English and be capable of physically participating in the program for which they are applying. While we expect all practitioners to have a thoughtful practice, you do not need to be able to perform complicated asana to take the program. A commitment to your practice is all that you need. If you are working with an injury, please contact us to discuss your options as this may not be a barrier to your experience.

My English is not very good, can I still take the training?

Absolutely! However, it is recommended to have a basic understanding of English.

What is the minimum age to attend the teacher training?

The minimum age to attend the training is 19 years old.

How much time should I spend on homework?

Homework is usually less than an hour a night, though the final exam may take 1-3 hours to complete.

How skilled do I have to be at yoga to attend a teacher training?

We welcome students of all levels at our teacher trainings! Veteran students will dive deeper into their own practice, and newer students will establish a solid foundation in their own skills.

I saw on the website that there is a pay as you go plan. How does that work?

The 200-hour teacher training can be paid in full up-front or by module (there are 3 modules). If you choose to pay per module, payment must be made before the start of each module.

What happens to my YYOGA Membership or pass during teacher training?

Students receive a Class Pack to any YYOGA studio during their training for the 200 hour, Yin, and YHot programs. These free classes begin on the first day of each training program.

Your YYOGA membership will be placed on hold during this time. This hold will not affect your regular hold time.

*(Mat and towel service not included).

What’s your refund policy?

If YYOGA cancels the program for any reason, you will receive a full refund.

  • If you withdraw before the start of the training, you will receive a full refund minus your registration fee.

  • If you withdraw before 50% of the Program or Module is complete, you will receive a 50% refund of payment.

  • If you withdraw after 50% of the Program or Module is complete, no payment refund will be issued.

  • You must withdraw in writing.

The non-refundable Registration Fee is included in the program cost:

  • 200 hour Module, YHot, and Yin $150

  • 200 hour Intensive Program (all 3 Modules)

  • 200 hour Wednesdays and Weekends Program

Is there a discount if we register early?

Do you offer scholarships or financial assistance?

If there is an adequate amount of registrants, we offer a work study position. In exchange for assisting in logistics and attendance, the In-Training Assistant receives a 20% discount on the program cost. Applications may be submitted once the applicant has enrolled in the program. Please click HERE for the application form.

200 Hour Program

Can I do the modules separately? For example do module one in the upcoming training and the remaining modules at a later time?

Yes! You can complete all three modules in the program by taking the Intensive and/or the Weekend format.  All modules must be completed in sequential order within 18 months of starting the 200 Hour Program.

What are the required reading books?

The required reading books are:

  • The Key Muscles of Yoga: Volume 1 (Ray Long)

  • Anatomy Colouring Book (4th edition; Kapit/Elson)

  • Yoga Sutras (translation of your choice)

You can purchase them at our YYOGA retail boutique and should have them for the first day of training.

Is the 200-hour course certified with the Yoga Alliance?

What is the Yoga Alliance?

Yoga Alliance is the largest nonprofit association representing the yoga community that aims to promote and support the integrity and diversity of the teaching of yoga. Despite their regulations and standards, there is a great deal of variation between teacher trainings. Research your courses to ensure that you are matching with a training program that meets your needs. The YYOGA 200 Hour program is registered with Yoga Alliance, which means that we meet all of their educational standards. For more information check out their website, here.

Continuing Education

Can I take the YHot and/or Yin teacher training if I have not completed a 200 Hour program?

Yes, we welcome passionate students to participate in our continuing education courses and dive deeper into these amazing yoga styles!  If you would like to teach these styles, then a 200 Hour certification is required.

With the YHot certification, would I be able to teach hot yoga at other studios as well as YYOGA?

Hiring requirements vary by studio; however, the YHot training gives you foundational skills that you will need to teach many hot yoga styles. If you would like to teach this style with YYOGA, then we also require a 200 Hour certification.

How do I choose a mentor in the Mentorship Program?

Once you apply for the program, you will receive a list of eligible mentors from which to choose. In choosing your mentor, consider your own goals for your mentorship: How do you wish your teaching to evolve? What do you wish to learn? Does your mentor demonstrate these qualities or skills? If you have a specific goal, choose the teacher who best personifies these skills. If you are not sure about the best choice for you, contact us! We will be happy to help you find the perfect fit.
