I've never taken a yoga class before. How do I start?
Welcome! We are so happy to meet you; we welcome all levels of practice to our studios so you'll feel right at home in our community.
You can start by exploring our locations and class schedule to see what might be right for you, and join online today. Our Starter Pack, offering 3 classes for the price of 2, is the best value for newbies but we do occasionally have special offers so be sure to check out our pricing page.
We also encourage you to chat with our Guest Experience Team at the front desk. When you attend your first class, come 20 minutes early to get all the information you need and set up your account, and bring a valid government-issued photo ID.
Also, let your teacher know that you are new to yoga, and feel free ask any questions that you may have. They are there to make sure you feel comfortable, welcome and informed.
If you're a little worried about being rushed, it's not a bad idea to try out a class that is not during prime time hours (lunch and after work), to ensure you get the additional attention you might need.
What should I wear? Do I need a mat?
Wear comfortable clothes that you can easily move and stretch in. If you are attending a YHot class you may want to wear shorts, and bring a towel. All YYOGA studios have yoga mats and towels for rent - you can rent each item for $3.50. It is also possible to purchase Mat & Towel Rental Cards for $35, so that you never have to worry about bringing a mat again!
I have an injury but would still like to try yoga. What class should I attend?
First please make sure that you have your doctor’s OK to attend yoga. Although yoga is beneficial for healing, note that some styles are quite vigorous and may not be ideal when you’re first coming back. We recommend starting off with gentle, slower-paced classes such as Gentle Hatha, Hatha, or Restorative. YHot may also be a good choice if you enjoy heat, and Yin so long as your injury is not joint-related.
How do I sign in for class? Do I just show up?
When you arrive at the studio , a member of our Guest Experience team will sign you in for class. Please be sure to arrive at least 10 to 15 minutes early to avoid lineups, feeling rushed, and to ensure that you will get a spot.
Because our most popular and prime time classes may reach capacity, we offer online reservations to help you plan your day. If you do reserve online, note that you must arrive in studio no later than 10 minutes before class starts to keep your reservation. You can make an online reservation ahead of time if you have an active pass with classes available on it.
If I arrive late can I still attend class?
Out of respect for everyone’s time and personal schedules, we start classes right on time and do not allow latecomers. We are firm about this policy because many classes begin with an introduction, silent centering or meditation and to allow latecomers would be distracting and disruptive to both teacher and students. Please arrive at least 15 minutes early to ensure that you can attend class.
Online reservations: how do they work and what is the policy for cancelling reservations?
Class reservations are only available online. They cannot be completed over the phone or in person. Up to 50% of a given class capacity may be reserved ahead online; the other 50% is kept open for walk in guests on a first come, first serve basis. When you reserve, your spot will be held until 10 minutes before class starts. If you do not arrive to claim your reservation by the 10 minute mark, your spot may be given away to another guest.
For your online reservation to go smoothly, please make sure that you have an active pass with classes available, and that you have connected your profiles on our website. You should then be able to easily reserve and keep track of your schedule.
If you cancel your online reservation less than 30 minutes before the class starts, please be aware that although reservation is cancelled, the unused visit will not be put back onto your class pass (or back onto your account as a drop-in).

What is the minimum age requirement to attend classes at YYOGA?
The minimum age to sign up to practice at YYOGA on your own is 19 years in British Columbia and 18 years in Ontario (legal age, age of majority).
If you are under the age of 19 in BC or 18 in Ontario, you can attend YYOGA if the following conditions are met:
REQUIRED: Please have a parent or legal guardian come with you on your first visit so they can sign a waiver on your behalf. Minors will not be able to attend class until this step has been completed.
The minimum age to attend any class style WITH a parent/legal guardian present is age 10.
The minimum age to attend any class style WITHOUT a parent/legal guardian present is 15, so long as a waiver is signed by a parent/legal guardian.
Can I sign in for and attend two (or more) classes in a row?
Yes, however please note that if you are taking two classes in a row, they cannot be done back-to-back: The first class must end at least 15 minutes before the second class starts. For example, if your first class ends at 5pm, the second class must start at 5:15pm or later - the second class cannot also start at 5pm. This is to prevent noise and disruption caused by leaving one class early and coming into the next class late.
When you sign in for two or more classes at the front desk, Guest Experience will give you a token for your first class only, then kindly ask you to return to the desk between classes to receive your token for the next class.
NOTE: Online registration allows guests to reserve back-to-back classes, even though this doesn’t match our policy. In studio you will be asked to select and attend classes with at least a 15 minute break in between.
Can I use my pass in both BC and Ontario?
Yes! As long as your pass is current, has visits remaining, has no payments owing (if a Month to Month Membership) and is not a special promotion available only in one region. Your YYOGA key fob helps us to link and access your account across regions, so please bring your key fob with you when visiting across provinces. Simply mention that you have a pass or membership in the other region when you sign in!
If you need to place a membership hold or cancellation and you’re not in your home province, no problem! All hold and cancellation requests are made online so you can make your request from anywhere. Simply ensure you select your home studio so your request can be processed smoothly.
We kindly ask that you submit any other type of account question, request or adjustment to your home studio or the province where you purchased the pass due to the way we access your account details.
If I purchased something in BC, can I refund it in Toronto? (And vice-versa?)
System limitations currently prevent us from being able to process refunds in a different province from where the product or service was purchased. We ask that you request refunds in the same province where the item or service was purchased.
Can YYOGA Gift Cards be used across provinces?
Unfortunately, gift cards are unable to be used or transferred across provinces. Gift cards purchased in BC can only be redeemed in BC, and gift cards purchased in Ontario can only be redeemed in Ontario. However, if you live in BC and want to purchase for a friend in Ontario (and vice versa), you can do so! When you visit our Gift Cards page simply click “Buy in Ontario” so that your friend in Ontario can use their gift card.
What happens if I move and the province where I usually use my pass changes?
If you’ve made a permanent or long-term move, we may make an exceptional transfer of your pass across provinces so you can fully access, manage, and make use of it in your new province. However, we are only able to transfer certain passes and memberships. For assistance, please speak to a Supervisor or Studio Manager, or submit a request via our Contact Us form online.
