Meet Charlene SanJenko, YYoga member and Founder and CEO of PowHERhouse Media Group, a social impact organization utilizing a multi-media platform to build strong women.
We chatted with Charlene to learn more about her experience with YYoga and how her company brings together powHERful women, ready to make an impact and change the world.
YYoga: How did you discover yoga?
Charlene: It’s funny, my first recollection of yoga dates back to when I was 7 or 8 years old. I was mesmerized by Kareen Zebroff and her backbends and headstands. Kareen’s morning yoga television show was my first peek into the world of yoga.
YYoga: How did you get involved in the YYoga community?
Charlene: For the past 16 years, I’ve been studying PowHERful women, fascinated by life elements, practices and excellence habits that not only build strong women, but also keep them strong. PowHERhouse is dedicated to building strong women by supporting them as they Find Their Power and Take Their Lead. We live in the sweet spot of lifestyle and leadership.
I am very fortunate to have warm relationships with some of the amazing YYoga leaders and teachers, which brought me closer to the YYoga community and its mission.
YYoga: How does yoga help you? What goals can it help you achieve?
Charlene:At PowHERhouse we talk a lot about “The Practice of PowHERful Living”. Living, learning and leading from a powHERful place takes focus, perseverance, strength and intention. It’s not a destination, but rather a state from where we operate on a daily basis. Yoga is a key part of regularly reinforcing this practice.
Whether in business, politics, innovation or social change, leaders must find their edge, make tough decisions and lead with a level of authenticity, integrity, integration and performance like never before. The more time we spend on the mat, the more refined our ability to effectively lead from a grounded, creative and present state.
We all seek community, that feeling of belonging. PowHERful leaders – in business and life – know the importance of plugging into support systems that inspire action, energize positive transformation and support sustainability. The value of community-building with like-minded peeps that yoga provides is pure gold.
YYoga: How has yoga impacted your organization/company?
Charlene: PowHERhouse operates primarily in the digital and events space. However, as we continue to expand across Canada, we will follow a Workspace + Wellness concept affectionately known as PowHERhubs. Our flagship location is located on the Sunshine Coast where we host PowHERtrips, lifestyle + leadership retreats.
Within our national social impact media organization, across our Women We Celebrate media partnership, and throughout all of the women we come into contact with, our message is simple: “Find Your Power. Take Your Lead.” Yoga is recognized as a valuable leadership tool.
YYoga: Do you think yoga can change the world?
Charlene: Absolutely. Yoga is a key component of building strong women and female leaders. At PowHERhouse, our mantra is, “We build strong women. Strong women build strong families. Strong families build strong communities. Strong communities build a strong future. Our future.”
