Meet Catherine, Centre Manager & Teacher Extraordinaire for YYoga Toronto!
Catherine brings her West Coast yoga experience to The Six! The YYoga Community Team sat down with her recently to see what Catherine and the Toronto team are up to!
YYoga: So Catherine, tell us - how did you get into yoga?
Catherine: For many years I took random yoga classes at various different studios throughout Vancouver. I often found myself in hot classes without really knowing what the various styles of yoga were or what it was that I was looking for. I would walk away from the class feeling like I'd enjoyed it and thinking 'I should do this more often'. Several months would pass before I found myself in another class. Then one day I walked into a flow class at YYoga Highgate in Burnaby.... and I fell in love with yoga. As it turns out, my body and brain crave rhythm and movement connected with breath! I've never looked back... vinyasa yoga is my jam!
YYoga: What is a fun fact about you?
Catherine: I later became the Centre Manager at Highgate YYoga. I was there for 3 years and then moved to Ontario to be closer to my family and to facilitate the opening of our first Toronto location, Queen Street West YYoga. It thrills me to be a part of bringing the YYoga culture to a new and growing community.
YYoga: Why do you continue to do it?
Catherine: I love the diversity of my job at YYoga. From teaching to centre operations, I am always certain that each day is going to present new challenges and opportunities. It is a privilege to be surrounded by people who are passionate about what they do each and every day.
YYoga: What do you love most about the YYoga community?
Catherine: I am proud of the welcoming environment that has been created by our teachers, Guest Experience team and students in classes. Yoga can be an intimidating practice and I'm so touched to be a part of a community that welcomes everybody!
YYoga: What’s Next for YYoga Toronto?
Catherine: In a few days we wrap up our Spring 30 Day Challenge with a celebratory afternoon at YYoga Queen Street West on Sunday May 1st. We’ll also be continuing to expand our programming based on our guest feedback. We’re introducing some new classes this summer, and although I can’t mention what they are just yet, I know they’ll add great value to our members and community! And don’t forget to check YYoga out at OM TO this June!
